Au hasard Balthazar

february 6
The film will be introduced by Francesco Crispino

(France/Sweden 1966) Directed by Robert Bresson, starring Anne Wiazemsky, Pierre Klossowski, b/w, duration: 95', 35mm OV with Italian subtitles

The life of Balthazar the donkey, an involuntary and impartial witness to human affairs and their burden of violence and suffering. One of the highest achievements of Bresson's cinema, which once again finds in the extreme simplicity of storytelling and staging the key to an extraordinary expressive force, a realism that is stark but ready to transfigure itself into spiritual allegory. EO, by Skolimowski, recently awarded at the Cannes Film Festival, is a homage to this film.
