An encounter with Antonella Capetti

The encounter offers a special opportunity to explore the astonishing potential of the illustrated book with its combination of pictures and words as an educational tool in the classroom, a tool capable of acquainting children with beauty and wonder and of fostering their emotional, cognitive and relational growth. The topic is discussed by Antonella Capetti, a primary school teacher with years of experience in the kindergarten environment, who will be opening up the doors of her classroom to acquaint us with her original teaching method using books, words and pictures, offering practical tips, pathways, suggestions and a bibliography to facilitate reflection and the development of critical thought.

Antonella Capetti was born in Grosio, in the province of Sondrio, on 25 September 1967. She began to read before the age of five and has not looked back since. She began to teach kindergarten classes at the age of 20 and continued to do so for seventeen years before moving on to primary school, where she has been teaching Italian since 2004. Her passion for reading, and for illustrated books in particular, has always played a major role in her work. Since 2013 she has been logging her daily activities with her pupils in her blog Apedario, in which she narrates her decision to teach reading and writing using illustrated books. She has written A scuola con gli albi illustrati. Insegnare con la bellezza delle immagini e delle parole (2018) for Topipittori.
