Beyond photography, the digital storytelling of the World Press Photo: new languages for visual journalism

16 may
to tie with the exhibition "World Press Photo 2019"

A talk given by Duilio Giammaria and Francesco Zizola, with Antonio Labbro Francia, Issa Touma (nominee Interactive Digital Storytelling WPP), Jacopo Zanchini (Internazionale), moderated by Sara Alberani.

A debate to discuss the future of visual journalism in relation to digital technologies, on the occasion of the World Press Photo Exhibition 2019 that this year will show for the first time the Digital Stotytelling section, launched but the  World Press Photo foundation in 2011.
At a time when new digital platforms replace traditional media and the classic forms of television viewing, we are witnessing the development of new and specific languages.
Far beyond the contribution of photography, the Digital Storytelling Contest recognises new forms of visual journalism that create immersive experiences on current issues with a language that combines video, audio, text and interactive artistic techniques.
How do the visual journalistic narrative forms evolve through the new devices? How do the relationship between rhythm, duration, framing, editing change? Where is the line between the construction of images and reportage?
In order to understand the forms of digital journalism state-of-the-art in Italy and abroad, the talk will present some of the Digital Storytelling awarded authors live testimony in dialogue with some of the most important Italian newspapers directors and deputy directors.
