The title may sound paradoxical: why should someone teach me how to look at a cartoon? Especially since even a kid with no education at all can understand them. But as is often the case, what appears easy on the surface may in fact conceal a more adventurous side than one might be led to expect. So we shall try to invert the viewpoint and recount a few Disney and Pixar classics as though they were works of art from a distant age, revealing the mechanisms that make the images work: the form, the viewpoint, the technology and the pace.
