Educating to art

Forum - Palazzo delle Esposizioni

January - June 2013

The Palazzo delle Esposizioni's and 's Educational Services - Art Workshop service organizes training courses for teachers, students, professionals, and in fact anyone with an interest in the themes addressed.  We firmly believe that the language of art is a useful tool to allow us to take a fresh look at reality, thus our goal is to offer new alphabets designed to educate people to art.

Art Workshop Seminars

Theory and practice seminars designed to explore a working method based on active participation on the observer's part, and to understand the importance of exhibition design, of the quality of the venue and of the educational materials used, all of which are specific elements in the Educational Services - Art Workshop's activities.

Five rendez-vous and five opportunities to meet up and review the phases in the design and development of the workshop pathways devised to tie in with the exhibitions.

Saturday  19 January, from 10am to 1pm and from 2pm to 5pm

What does Vermeer sound like?

seminar and workshop

A seminar and workshop designed to tie in with the exhibition on Vermeer.  The Golden Century of Dutch Art, providing an opportunity to observe, to debate and to reflect on the choice of technology as an educational tool, and to interpret a work of art by an old master of the past in a modern light.  The seminar consists of a sound pathway through the works of the Dutch masters, allowing us to enter on tiptoe into the intimate and silent atmosphere of a 17th century dwelling.

Saturday  16 February, from 10am to 1pm and from 2pm to 5pm

Oriental weaves

seminar and workshop   Oriential weaves, a pathway designed by the Art Workshop to tie in with the exhibition On the Silk Road, is an example of a multi-disciplinary educational approach cutting right across the school curriculum.  Intercultural relations, geography, history, art and aesthetics are interwoven into a single journey from East to West, on sea and on land, in the footsteps of the caravans of people and goods that used to travel the silk road.   The seminar will be exploring different cultures and the trade in objects, ideas and traditions at every staging post.

Saturday  16 March, from 10am to 1pm and from 2pm to 5pm

A journey through the Art Bookshelf

seminar and workshop

The leading players in this seminar are the books on the Art Bookshelf, a library specialising in international art publications for children.  Revisiting the book as an object to look at, to read and to touch, as a starting point for new pathways, the seminar focuses on the many ways of narrating nature in illustrated books, ranging from Iela Mari's L'albero, a classic children's book on the cycle of the seasons, to Katsumi Komagata's Little Tree, a spectacular pop-up book exploring the passage of time.

Saturday  13 April, from 10am to 1pm and from 2pm to 5pm

Titian

seminar and workshop

The monographic exhibition on this great Venetian artist provides us with an opportunity to reflect on colour, relationships, interaction and mixtures.  Tiziano Vecellio, known as the "Divine Painter" on account of his skill in using oil colours with unprecedented mastery, mixed, created and applied paint as though it were living, expressive matter.

Saturday 18 May, from 10am to 1pm and from 2pm to 5pm

Empire State.  New art in New York

seminar and workshop

The younger generations of artists who live and work in New York tell us the story of a city that has always played a leading role in the visual arts and in the development of new ideas.  The pathway in this workshop is devoted entirely to the images and icons that symbolise the Big Apple, ranging from the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty to the skyline with its skyscrapers and the Brooklyn Bridge.
