The Art Workshop presents
Play with Art
Macro Testaccio - La Pelanda
from 19 February to 24 March 2013
To tie in with the second edition of the Once Upon a Time. Games and Toys festival organised by Roma Capitale, the Palazzo delle Esposizioni and 's Art Workshop presents a selection of artist's games from the collections of the Art Bookshelf, a library specialising in international art books for children. In these games, the exploration of visual art is combined with a focus on the creative development of both younger and older children, and the different vocabularies of art play a leading role in the process. From Munari to Komagata, we offer free workshops for schools and families to encourage them to experiment with shapes and colours, modules and compositions in an endless range of combinations.
Aconà Biconbì [AwithA BwithB]
for children aged seven to eleven
Originally designed as a sculpture, the result of Munari's exploration of the "multiple" theme, Aconà Biconbì is a game consisting of discs with a hole in the middle. In the workshop, the coloured modules, freely folded and matched, breathe life into a three-dimensional construction which varies according to the number of elements used and the way they are assembled.
Pata Pata
for children aged three to six
Japanese artist Katsumi Komagata, the heir to Munari's pedagogical approach, is a creator of art books for children, designed as three-dimensional objects with lines and colours that turn into a game. Pata Pata is a big, soft book inspired by Bruno Munari's Libro Letto, and its pages come together in a myriad coloured shapes in the workshop.
