Animated tour and workshop for schools and families

How do you choose a painting? How do you put together a collection? An unbelievable selection of masterpieces, a unique collection of modern and contemporary works of art help us to reflect on the art of collecting art and on the enthusiasm that drove its founder. In the workshop we learn to become art experts and to put together collections with the assistance of Kandinsky, Matisse, Picasso and Mark Rothko.

Let's build a paper city! Illustrator Taro Miura, who has written several illustrated books in Europe and Japan, invites adults and children to all join together on a collective work in progress, building a paper city that'll grow before our very eyes as everyone chips in!

To mark the Botero.  Stations of the Cross.  The Passion of Christ exhibition, the Palazzo delle Esposizioni's Art Workshop has devised a tour of the exhibition and a workshop to help you discover this Colombian artist's work and to invent stories told in episodes.

Five dates dedicated to colour in art. Monet, Van Gogh, Kandinsky, Rothko and Klein are the five artists selected for their use and interpretation, in different ways, of colour.

Inspired by the original illustrations from the book Matisse's Garden, readings and workshops allow children to create simple compositions of shapes and colours with scissors.

In this workshop for demolishing stereotypes and prejudices and for working together on devising new rights for boys and girls, we take our cue from two entertaining illustrated books entitled "The Declaration of the Rights of Girls" and "The Declaration of the Rights of Boys", published in Italy by the Lo Stampatello publishing house with the participation of Amnesty International Italia.

To tie in with the Caravaggio Experience, the Palazzo delle Esposizioni's Art Workshop offers a tour of the exhibition providing kids with a full immersion in Caravaggio's work involving all five senses.

Three meetings dedicated to touch, taste, smell, hearing and sight to interpret and read art, setting out from the works of contemporary artists and experiencing possible creative processes.

The course focuses on teaching participants a working method for use in the classroom designed to breathe life into the language and practices of contemporary art through the primary elements of an artistic vocabulary underpinning a potential visual grammar.

Two days devoted to kids and grownups alike to admire the animated shorts of German director Lotte Reiniger set to music and remixed live, to talk about art books for children, to take part in workshops on shadows and to work together on inventing original stories by playing with light and shadow.

To tie in with the Quadriennale, the Art Workshop is organising a tour of the exhibition and a workshop to learn how not to make do with first appearances but to dig deeper and to tell the story of us, of others and of the world around us using the words, ideas and techniques of contemporary art.

5 encounters with the curators

A new edition of Spot!, a rendez-vous at cocktail hour offering a guide to the appreciation and interpretation of a work of art, a theme or an artist in the exhibition, is returning to accompany the  16 Art Quadriennale. Different Times, Different Myths exhibition at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore and understand the themes, languages and leading players in young Italian art "straight from the horse's mouth" by meeting with the curators.

To tie in with the 16th Quadriennale, Palazzo delle Esposizioni's Art Workshop is organising a special two-day event for anyone over the age of four.

Ongoing workshops help you to familiarise with the techniques, languages and materials that tell the complex story of Italian contemporary art in a collective work in progress shaped by the input and the contributions made by all participants.
