BUFFALO
G R A N D I P I A N U R Egli spazi sconfinati della danza contemporaneaA project by Teatro di Roma - MiBAC, artistic direction Michele Di Stefano

05.30__06.02.2019

G R A N D I  P I A N U R E is a retrospective/event amplified in time – with performances spread out over the theatre season between 14 April and 9 September – and in space – with different venues ranging from the theaters of Argentina and India to the Lido di Ostia, and eventually finding its way into the museum halls of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni with a focus on performance.

The diversification of venues and formats means that G R E A T  P L A I N S is a single entity yet it can dialogue with an increasingly broad and less specialised audience, ranging over different environments and facilitating an interdisciplinary and intergenerational approach. The most significant innovation in the second edition takes this shape: BUFFALO, an innovative vessel for the museum halls in the Palazzo delle Esposizioni unfolding alongside a retrospective of shows and performances with a format consisting of four consecutive days (30 and 31 May1 and 2 June). Performances played out in the Palazzo spaces trespassing on the visual and musical arts, from international street culture to pop culture and from contemporary musical research to the imaginary world of the cinema. Historic names in Italian research such as Kinkaleri with a rearrangement of their masterpiece Otto (Premio Ubu 2002 award) for young performers will be alternating with young groups such as Sigourney Weaver, an eclectic performer/musician duo comprising Biagio Caravano and Daniela Cattivelli with a first-time performance of Willy Willy in the shape of a dancing concert, with a performing couple named Roberta Mosca/Canedicoda presenting Music for a Day, a project lasting 24 hours performed only once a year over a 24-year cycle, with Ioannis Mandafounis' company performing One One One and NU, two site-specific creations based on direct communication with the audience, with the work of the celebrated Maria Hassabi, an artist who has proven capable of capturing the link between choreography and the visual arts and who has appeared at numerous venues, including the MoMa in New York and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, and finallly, with the Italian choreography's star revelations Panzetti-Ticconi and their site-specific project entitled Jardin.
