Gabriele Basilico's work is enshrined in over one hundred twenty publications, including both books and catalogues, ranging from Milano. Ritratti di fabbriche to Bord de Mer via Beirut to the many books devoted to such cities as Moscow, Milan and Rome. Roberto Koch, who publishes Contrasto and numerous other publications by the photographer, and Nicolò Degiorgis will be discussing his work in a dialogue comparing the experience of a major publishing house with that of a young publisher, curator and artist.

Giovanna Calvenzi was photo editor for several Italian periodicals from 1985 to 2019. In 1998 she directed the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie in Arles, in 2002 she was guest curator of Photo España in Madrid and in 2014 she was the artistic delegate of the Mois de la Photo in Paris together with Laura Serani. She has lectured in the history of photography and photo editing in Milan and Bologna and is a student of contemporary photography. Her publications include Italia. Ritratto di un Paese in sessant’anni di fotografia (2003), Letizia Battaglia. Sulle ferite dei suoi sogni (2010), Le cinque vite di Lisetta Carmi (2012) and Interviste (2019).

Nicolò Degiorgis was born in Bolzano in 1985. He is the founder of the Rorhof publishing house, co-curator with the Bolzano Foto-Forum gallery and was guest curator of Museion, Bolzano's museum of modern and contemporary art, in 2017. In his capacity as an artist and photographer he has shown his work at several exhibitions in national and international institutions and retrospectives. His book Hidden Islam (Rorhof, 2015) has won a variety of international awards including Author Book of the Year, Rencontres d’Arles (2014) and the Aperture Paris Photo First Book Award (2014).

Roberto Koch is a publisher, curator and photographer who also organises cultural events involving photography. In 1986 he founded Contrasto, Italy's leading photographic production concern, and in 1994 he launched the eponymous publishing house which has published over 500 books on major international photography to date.
