Journal d'un curé de campagne, France, 1951, 110 min., original version with Italian subtitles, directed by Robert Bresson, starring Claude Laydu, Nicole Ladmiral
An idealistic young prelate ends up as a parish priest in a country village, where he faces the local people's hostility and mistrust. Sticking closely to Bernanos's novel, Bresson here produced one of his best-known films which was to inspire not only Bergman for Winter Light but also Scorsese for Taxi Driver.
