After introducing the exhibition Metropolis, Filippo Maggia will be discussing Gabriele Basilico's work with Roberta Valtorta and Francesco Moschini, focusing in particular on the Milan-born photographer's relationship with cities, reviewing his artistic career and recalling some of his photographic missions.

 

Roberta Valtorta, a photographic historian and critic, is Vice-President of the SISF (Italian Society for the Study of Photography). She curated the Provincia di Milano's Archive of Space project, worked on setting up the Regione Lombardia's photographic archives, edited the Art& (Udine) book collection and designed the Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea in Cinisello Balsamo-Milano, holding the post of Scientific Director from 2004 to 2015. She has lectured at the universities of Udine, Rome and Milan, and has been teaching at the Centro Bauer in Milan since 1984. She has curated exhibitions in Italy and Europe and published numerous books and essays.

 

Filippo Maggia, lives and works in Milan. He was the curator of photography for the Galleria Civica di Modena from 1993 to 2005 and has been photo editor for Skira since 2006. He has also been the curator of photography for the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin since 1998. He was curator of photography with the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa in Venice from 2006 to 2008. He was Director of the Fondazione Fotografia Modena from 2013 to 2017 and has been Head of Projects with the Archivio Basilico since 2019.

 

Francesco Moschini, an independent art and architecture critic and an architecture and art historian, lectures in the History of Art and the History of Architecture at the Politecnico di Bari. He is the Scientific and Cultural Director of the A.A.M. Architettura Arte Moderna (A.A.M. Galleria). Over time he has put together a collection of original drawings and works on art, architecture, design, photography, graphic art and illustration that can be accessed in full on line and that is a product of one-to-one cooperation with leading national and international authors, artists and photographers.
