Anna Luppi  presents “The main organ of anatomical exploration: the uterus or concerning imaginary science”

From the extremely well-known image on the frontispiece of Vesalius' De Humani Corporis Fabrica to those that speak of an ancient fascination with the generating ability of the female body, via those that still bear witness even today to difficulties of various kinds attendant on the depiction of the uterus, the main organ of anatomical exploration and of the fetus that is formed within it.
