The Cinema meets Science - 2nd edition
We reflect once again on the future of our species through the cinema and science: where will we be and what will we be like twenty years from now? Is the technological revolution currently under way going to make our children happier or make them feel more oppressed? Addressing expectations and fears occasioned by the rapidity of scientific progress today, a selection of great films helps us to clarify the prospects and limitations of mankind in its increasingly close relationship of dependence and coexistence with robotics, genetic manipulation, artificial intelligence, the changing environment and virtual reality. To counterbalance often catastrophic visions of the future imagined by the cinema, we invite a number of scientists to introduce the thematic sections into which the films have been ideally broken down and to formulate hypotheses regarding our imminent future on the basis of their own research while also clarifying the doubts that beset cinematographic fiction: a new way of understanding who we are and, possibly, who we are going to be.
