Driving Energy Award 2024 – Contemporary Photography

Entries will be accepted until 30 June for the Driving Energy Award 2024 – Contemporary Photography launched by Terna, Italy’s national power grid operator.

The Award, which is in its third edition, is free and open to everyone.

This year’s theme is Focus on the Invisible, inviting photographers to reflect on what cannot be seen, yet produces visible effects. In this way, we celebrate talent and the unique nature of an art that captures realities which do not exist for many people, or at least not yet.

One example of the invisible is the energy transmitted every day, 365 days a year, all across Italy by Terna. Another is the increasingly invisible power lines designed and created by Terna in its role as enabler of the ecological transition. The sustainability of electrical infrastructure is a strategic driver and one of the pillars of the Group’s operations.

Marco Delogu, photographer and Chairman of Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, has been confirmed as the curator.

Lorenza Bravetta, Director of the Museo dell’Automobile in Turin as of July 2023, has been confirmed as Chair of the Judging Panel. Alongside her and the Curator will be the new judges, all high-profile personalities in sectors relevant to the Award: Francesca Barbi Marinetti, art critic, curator and cultural entrepreneur; Micol Forti, Curator of the Modern and Contemporary Art Collection of the Vatican Museums; Rosa Alba Impronta, collector, entrepreneur and founder of the Made in Cloister project; and brothers Fabio and Damiano D’Innocenzo, directors, screenwriters, poets and photographers. The Panel will be completed by David Massey, Terna’s Chief of External Relations and Institutional Affairs.

The Honorary Committee has also been confirmed, made up of winners of the 2023 edition: Dione Roach (Senior Award), Martina Zanin (Youth Award), Antonio Vacirca (Amateur Award), Beatrice Aiello (Art Academy Special Commendation), and Lorenzo Pipi (Terna’s Highest Voted Work). This group will be responsible for assigning the Art Academy Special Commendation.

Once again, the final stage of this year’s Award will be hosted in Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, where the finalist and winning works chosen by the Panel will be displayed in a free exhibition.
