Cinema Retrospective "Stanley Kubrick"

The Palazzo delle Esposizioni is planning a special tribute to one of the world's most original and imaginative film directors, whom the public will be able to discover, or to rediscover, thanks to a complete screening of his entire cinematographic output. The films will be shown in English with sub-titles in Italian, providing cinema-goers with a unique opportunity to see some of the greatest masterpieces in the history of the cinema, and to delve into the artistic secrets of one of today's most eminent contemporary masters. His works still talk to us with disarming clarity about our lives today; they are a major lesson on our times, while also containing the kind of visionary strength that can project us beyond the dimension of time and space with which we are familiar.

This is a typical "noir" movie with dark and chilly atmospherics, a lot of sensual beauty and passion, and some gripping scenes like the grand finale in the dummy warehouse

The Killing

The story of a heist at the racecourse told from a variety of different viewpoints, this film moves at a tremendously fast and gripping pace, and is absolutely flawless in its suspense. It was thanks to this movie that the critics really discovered Kubrick, praising him as a second Orson Welles.

Paths of glory

This most perfect example of anti-militarist cinema is set in the First World War. After a defeat, an order comes through for three soldiers chosen at random among the troops to be summarily shot for cowardice as an example to their comrades. Their colonel tries to save their lives, but to no avail.
